Tefillin, Tzitzis and Mivtzoim

Every mitzvah here earns Kosher Points, the same points you earn for keeping kosher. The brachos are said the way you say Modeh Ani: you type the words in chat. Nobody else sees them.

You need both, the Tefillin Shel Yad and the Tefillin Shel Rosh. It takes three clicks, swapping between the two, with the brachos in between.

  1. Hold the Shel Yad and right click. It goes on your arm.
  2. Type its bracha in chat: Baruch Atah Hashem, Elokeinu Melech HaOlam, asher kideshanu b’mitzvosav v’tzivanu l’haniach tefillin.
  3. Hold the Shel Rosh and right click. It goes above your forehead.
  4. Hold the Shel Yad again and right click, to wind the strap round your hand and fingers.
  5. Type Shema in chat: Shema Yisrael, Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad.

You do not have to type it perfectly. Small typos are fine, and the game tells you how the bracha ends if you get it wrong. “Adonai” and “Eloheinu” work too.

Do not talk in between. If you type anything else in chat after the first bracha and before the Shel Rosh, you need a bracha on the Shel Rosh as well (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 25:9). The game asks for it: Baruch Atah Hashem, Elokeinu Melech HaOlam, asher kideshanu b’mitzvosav v’tzivanu al mitzvas tefillin. Many Ashkenazim say this second bracha every day (Rema 25:5). The game only asks for it after talking.

Take your time, but not too long. If a step waits more than a minute and a half, start again with the Shel Yad.

Once a day you get 10 Kosher Points and a little luck for 20 minutes: a slightly better catch when fishing and better finds in chests.

Tefillin are put on by day only. On Chol HaMoed this server follows the Shulchan Aruch (Orach Chaim 31:2) and does not put them on. Many Ashkenazim do put them on then, following the Rema. On Shabbos and Yom Tov the server is closed.

A Tallis Katan is worn in your leggings slot. Right click it, or put it there yourself. It gives +1 armor.

Prefer your armor? Tie the tzitzis onto a chestplate or leggings at a crafting table (below). The armor keeps everything it had, shows the tzitzis, and gets +1 armor.

By day, once you are wearing them, the game asks for the bracha. Type it in chat: Baruch Atah Hashem, Elokeinu Melech HaOlam, asher kideshanu b’mitzvosav v’tzivanu al mitzvas tzitzis.

Once a day: 5 Kosher Points, and villagers trade a little cheaper with you for 20 minutes.

Tzitzis are a mitzvah for men. For women there is the Chai Necklace, a small gold Chai on a chain. It is not a mitzvah, just a lovely piece of Jewish jewellery, and wearing it gives the same as tzitzis: +1 armor, 5 Kosher Points once a day and cheaper villagers for 20 minutes.

Wear it in the leggings slot, or hang it on a chestplate at a crafting table.

Some villagers are Jewish. You see the name when you look at them: Moshe, Yaakov, Rivka, Leah and many more. The men have beards and the women wear a sheitel.

Can’t find one? Type /mivtzoim and it points you to the nearest Jewish villager.

  • Tefillin with a Jewish man. Right click him with your Shel Yad, then the Shel Rosh, then the Shel Yad again. He says the brachos and Shema with you. Sometimes he chats in the middle, and then he says a bracha on the Shel Rosh too. 15 Kosher Points.
  • Shabbos candles with a Jewish woman. Right click her with Shabbos Candles and she will light them before Shabbos. 10 Kosher Points.

Each villager does it once a day, and you earn points for five villagers a day. The villager also remembers you, and his prices drop a little, the same as curing a zombie villager.

Place a Menorah and right click it on the nights of Chanukah, once it is dark. You light the shamash and say the brachos: l’hadlik ner shel Chanukah and she’asah nissim, and shehecheyanu the first time you light that year. The right number of lights burn for the night, added from the right. Once a night: 15 Kosher Points.

Everything here is also sold at Reb Mendel’s Kosher Shop for Kosher Points. It is expensive on purpose: making it yourself is the real way.

Each craft needs a sefer. Without it the crafting table stays empty and tells you which sefer you need. See Skills and Sefarim.

Tefillin have to be kosher all the way through, so the game follows the halacha. All of this needs Mishnah Berurah - Hilchos Tefillin, and you must know Hilchos Stam before it can teach you.
