Pets
A pet is a little friend that walks with you or waits for you at home. It sits when you stop, plays, looks around, and does one small kindness. Pets cannot be hurt and they never fight, so nobody needs one; they are company.
There are 23 to collect: 17 from the pet shop, and 6 rare boss pets that cannot be bought.

Reb Zelig Katz, the pet keeper, has a stall with a blue and white awning by the pond, south-east of the fountain at spawn. Talk to him and ask who is looking for a home. You pay once and the pet is yours for good. You cannot buy the same pet twice.

Taming a wild animal: the Keeper’s Treat
Section titled “Taming a wild animal: the Keeper’s Treat”Reb Zelig also sells the Keeper’s Treat for 5,000 Shekels. It is one try at making a wild animal your pet.
- Find the animal in the wild. It has to be one the pet shop sells: a stray cat, a wolf, a chicken, a rabbit, a fox, a frog, a turtle, a bee, a goat, an axolotl, a parrot, a panda, an armadillo, an allay, a sniffer or a polar bear.
- Right click it with the treat. The treat is used up and a roulette turns over the animal.
- 15 times in 100 it lands on yes, and the animal joins your collection. Otherwise it shakes its head, and you can try again with another treat.
On average that is about 33,000 Shekels a pet: a poor way to get a cat, and a good way to get an allay or a snifflet, if you can find one. A wild axolotl becomes the Axolotl, unless it really is a blue one, which becomes the Blue Axolotl.
The treat is not used up if you already have that pet, or if the animal belongs to someone: tamed, named, on a lead, or another player’s pet. It never works on bosses.
Boss pets
Section titled “Boss pets”Each boss has a tiny version of itself: the Mini Scholar, Mini Golem, Mini Og, Mini Ziz, Mini Leviathan and Mini Behemoth. They are not for sale. Every time a boss is beaten, each player who earns its crate has about a 1 in 1,000 chance that its pet is inside. See Boss Hunting.
It comes as a token. You can trade or give the token away until somebody right clicks it: whoever does gets the pet, for good. If you already have that pet, the token is not used, so you can pass it on. If your inventory is full it lands at your feet, only you can pick it up, and it never disappears. The whole server is told when one is found.
Buying one from another player
Section titled “Buying one from another player”A pet you own can be sold to another player for Shekels.
- Call the pet you want to sell, then type
/pets sellfollowed by the player’s name and your price. To sell a pet that is not with you, put its name first:/pets sellthen the pet, the player and the price. - The buyer sees your offer with [Buy it] and [No thanks]. On Bedrock it opens as a form. They have one minute to answer, or they can type
/pets acceptor/pets decline. - Nothing changes hands until they buy. Then the Shekels go to you and the pet goes into their collection, with its own name again.
The sale is called off if the buyer cannot afford it, already has that pet, or if you have gone offline. Both of you are told why.
Your pets: /pets
Section titled “Your pets: /pets”
/pets opens your collection: every pet, the ones you have and the ones you do not. A pet you do not have shows how to get it.
- Left click a pet you own and it comes with you. Click it again and it goes back to rest.
- Right click it for its options: come with me, stay home, rest.
- The bed at the top sets your pets’ home where you are standing.
One pet walks with you at a time. Calling another sends the first one to rest.

A pet that follows you
Section titled “A pet that follows you”It keeps a couple of blocks behind you. If it falls behind, gets stuck, or you teleport, it appears beside you. It comes with you to other worlds, goes away when you log out or die, and is back when you are. Monsters ignore it, and it never pushes you, opens doors, presses plates, picks things up or drops anything.
Pets at home
Section titled “Pets at home”Stand where your pets should live and use /pets sethome (or the bed in /pets). Then send pets there with /pets home. Up to three can live at home. At home a pet wanders around the spot, sits, sleeps at night if it is that kind of animal, and does its little things, even while you are offline, so visitors can see it.
What each pet does
Section titled “What each pet does”Every pet has one small perk, and each is something that animal does in Minecraft anyway. A perk works while the pet is out with you. The cat’s also works from home.
| Pet | Its perk |
|---|---|
| Cat | Leaves you a present when you get out of bed in the morning (string, a feather or a phantom membrane), most mornings. Creepers and phantoms keep away from a cat |
| Puppy | Sniffs out monsters: one within 10 blocks glows for 5 seconds |
| Hen | Lays an egg every 12 to 20 minutes |
| Bunny | Turns up a carrot or a dandelion every 15 to 25 minutes |
| Fox Kit | Brings a small present every 20 to 35 minutes: berries, a stick, a feather, a bone, string or an apple |
| Frog | Leaves a slime ball every 35 to 50 minutes |
| Little Turtle | Ten seconds of water breathing when you are nearly out of air, once every ten minutes |
| Bee | Pollinates: every 3 to 5 minutes a crop near you grows one stage |
| Goat Kid | Sure footed: your falls hurt one heart less |
| Axolotl | Five seconds of Regeneration when you are under half health in water, once every five minutes |
| Parrot | Copies the sound of any monster nearby so you hear it coming, and drops seeds every 10 to 18 minutes |
| Panda Cub | Shares a piece of bamboo every 15 to 25 minutes |
| Armadillo | Sheds an armadillo scute every 30 to 45 minutes |
| Allay | Fetches items lying near it and brings them to you |
| Snifflet | Digs up a torchflower seed or a pitcher pod every 35 to 50 minutes |
| Polar Bear Cub | Catches you a raw cod or salmon every 20 to 30 minutes |
| Blue Axolotl | The Axolotl’s perk, once every three minutes |
| Mini Scholar | Leaves its notes every 25 to 40 minutes: paper, a book, or a bottle o’ enchanting |
| Mini Golem | On guard: a monster within 16 blocks glows for 8 seconds |
| Mini Og | He never sleeps, so you do not have to: phantoms never come for you while he is with you |
| Mini Ziz | Catches you on the wind: a fall of more than 8 blocks turns into a slow one, once every two minutes |
| Mini Leviathan | Pulls you along when you swim: 15 seconds of a dolphin’s speed, once every two minutes |
| Mini Behemoth | Where it grazes, things grow: a crop near you grows a stage every minute or two |
Nothing a pet brings is from a treif animal. The cat leaves out the raw chicken and rotten flesh a Minecraft cat would bring, the fox brings no rabbit hide, and the polar bear cub’s fish are cod and salmon.
